Hawk Mountain Sanctuary PA

Hawk Mountain is a really well kept trail. It has a cost of $6 to be able to head on this trail. Costs go to the the Sanctuary for research and upkeep.  This is a bird hot spot, they specialize in raptors (hawks, eagles and so on). They keep a count of spotted birds through the year, and have very informative posts and visitor center on these birds. This is one of my favorite places to hike, simply for the views.  Best time to go for less crowds is early in the day and i would go during the week, weekends on really nice days or during the fall can have bus loads of people in and out.

Goat Hill Serpentine Barren PA

On the boarder of Pennsylvania and Maryland is Goat Hill Serpentine Barrens. Has smaller trails but lots of open land and thick pine. The ground is covered in serpentine (seen below). It is a butterfly and bird hot spot.
